1.5 The Edge of Desire

Authors Note: Thank you ALL so much for the comments. I am really enjoying where this story is going. Just a warning, this chapter is rated PG+13. There are some sexual scenes, but no full-on nudity.

After Gavin stayed over with Annelise for the first time, the two of them started almost spending every night together. There was no denying the way they felt about each other, but for months, they remained "friends" who happened to sleep in the same bed wrapped around each other all night. Annelise was amazed that Gavin was such a patient man, she didn't know how he resisted trying something night after night. Gavin knew Annelise was hesitant to move too fast, and he was happy to take things slow with her. Their relationship was complicated, but both of them knew what they had was so much deeper than a friendship. 

Gavin quickly promoted up through the school district, and within two years from starting as a teacher, he was an assistant principal. When his lease was up at the home he was renting next door, it was an easy decision for Annelise and Gavin. He moved in to Annelise's house with Clara. Paying rent at a place he never stayed at was crazy, and Annelise was happy to be able to continue to stay home with Clara while Gavin worked. She knew she eventually wanted to get a job, but while Clara was little, she wanted to spend her days with her.

One afternoon, Gavin asked Annelise if she would want to hire a babysitter so they could go out sometime, just the two of them. Clara was such a good baby, it was easy to take her out, but as Gavin and Annelise's feelings for one another only got stronger, they knew they needed some time together as well.

Gavin had asked some of his coworkers who they used to babysit, and Susan Summers was recommended by a number of people. Annelise called Susan one afternoon to ask her if she could come over to meet them. Annelise was so attached to Clara, she was nervous about leaving Clara with a stranger. Gavin reassured her, and told her that if she didn't feel comfortable with Susan, they could keep interviewing other sitters.

When the doorbell rang that afternoon, Annelise went to meet Susan.

"Susan, hello! Its so nice to meet you. I am Annelise."

"Nice to meet you, Annelise. I am looking forward to meeting your family!" 

Susan and Annelise chatted for a bit outside, and Susan could sense how anxious Annelise was. "Have you ever left your daughter with a babysitter before?" 

Annelise didn't correct her and tell her Annelise wasn't her daughter. "No, we haven't. I am sorry I seem like such a worrywart. I know you've come highly recommended, and that you're CPR and First Aid Certified. I feel like you'd be great, I just..." she trailed off.

"Annelise, what if we just did a trial run this afternoon? Do you and your husband have any errands to run? I can hang out this afternoon, feed Clara dinner, and if everything goes well, then maybe we can do this more regularly."

Annelise was tempted, because she needed to get some grocery shopping done and she had to admit, some time with just her and Gavin alone sounded tempting. "Okay, let me talk to Gavin."

An hour later, Gavin and Annelise were out shopping, just the two of them. Annelise's anxiety eased as soon as they actually left the house. Turns out, it was the anticipation of leaving that was the scariest part for her. The two of them walked up and down the aisles, laughing and joking and feeling relaxed. They both loved Clara, but being out together with no toddler was a nice change for a little while.  They talked about what they'd make that week for dinner, and picked up the necessary groceries, as well as some ice cream and a bottle of wine before heading home. 

"Gavin, look! A little dive bar that has pool and foosball. Can we go in, just for one game?" she asked. 

Gavin laughed, "For you, anything!" They put their groceries in the car, and walked across the street to the dive bar. It was empty at 5:00 PM on a Saturday, and they had the place to themselves. 

"Loser makes dinner tonight!" Annelise laughed.

"You're on!"

"So Chef Annelise, what is on the menu tonight?" Gavin asked, after beating Annelise by one point. Annelise scowled, but then laughed. She liked cooking for him and Clara anyway, and did it most nights. Just then, one of Annelise's favorite songs came over the radio. "Dance with me, Gavin!"

The two of them danced to the country songs over the radio, laughing and having so much fun together. They didn't care they were the only two in the place, and that the bartender probably thought they were crazy. It felt so good to let loose and just have fun.

As they danced song after song together, the tension between them seemed to change from a playful and flirty to "can't keep my hands off you." They moved closer and closer together, perfectly in sync to the music. Gavin slipped his hands on Annelise's waist, and pulled her closer to him. When the song changed to a slow one, they didn't stop dancing. Gavin locked eyes with Annelise, and she was sure he was going to kiss her right then. 

Gavin didn't kiss her, but they swayed together til the end of the song, the air thick with their desire for one another. She felt every inch of him pressed up to her, and felt like she couldn't get close enough to him. "Lets get out of here" Annelise whispered. 

They didn't say much on the way home, both of them lost in their own thoughts, knowing what was going to happen once they got home. As soon as they did, Gavin paid Susan and silently cheered when she was already in her pajamas and had eaten dinner. He quickly put Annelise down for the night, eager to be alone with Annelise again.

Annelise was just coming out of the bathroom and they met in the hallway. "Annelise." Gavin said as he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her close to him. Annelise let out a small moan as his arm tightened around her. Every one of her senses was on high alert. She was lost in his arms, intoxicated how good he smelled. His hard body was pressed against hers, and his lashes cast a shadow on his cheeks. 

Gavin's ran his hands up her stomach and grabbed her face tenderly in his hands before he crushed his mouth to hers. "Oh god, finallyyyy" she thought in her head. She wrapped his arms around his waist as he kissed her, first softly and then harder and faster. "Bedroom." Was all she could utter as desire overtook her body and mind. 

They quickly moved to the bedroom, eager to finally be together. Gavin placed his hands back on her face. "Annelise, I love you. I love you. " he said.

Annelise's flung herself in his arms, those words like gas on a fire to her ears. "I need you Gavin. Right now." She whispered between kisses. She pulled his shirt over his head, and felt her dress slip to the floor. Gavins pants were next and she was back in his arms as he kissed her all over her face, neck and collarbone. 

 "Oh my god Annelise. You are beautiful." His hands were all over her, and he slipped them between her lace panties. She cried out when she felt his hand touch her. He entered her with his finger and she could barely stand. "Yes Gavin, don't stop, please don't stop." She arched her back as he brought her closer and closer to the edge of desire. "Oh god..." Her nails dug into his back and her knees buckled as she came.

Gavin picked her up by the waist and they were on the bed as he explored every inch of her body, starting with her mouth and further and further down until she felt as if she might explode with the pleasure and anticipation. Right before she went over the edge for the second time, Gavin was inside of her, and they were riding that wave together. "Gavin" she moaned as he rocked back and forth inside of her.

The two of them made love for what seemed like hours. Gavin was such a tender but passionate lover, and Annelise had never experienced such an intense connection with someone. When the two of them finally were spent, they snuggled under the covers. Gavin's breathing slowed and his eyes closed, but Annelise was wide awake. "Gavin? she whispered after she thought he was asleep. "Hmm?" he said as he pulled her closer. "I love you, too." she said.

As the two of them drifted off in a blissful state of sleep, their mind was as far away from Alex Erickson as possible. He hadn't crossed their minds in weeks as they hadn't heard a peep from him and thought he had just been spewing empty threats that night in the front yard. Little did they know, Alex hadn't forgotten. Alex Erickson never made empty threats.

"Maya. Thank you for coming. Have you seen your daughter Clara recently?"
